As part of our annual #HLGGives program, the Delta team in our Biloxi, Mississippi office worked with the Gulf Coast Center for non-violence to “adopt” a family of five, providing them with necessities and gifts this holiday season. The Gulf Coast Center helps families and individuals in need due to domestic violence and this is Harris Local Government’s third year participating in the center’s adopt a family initiative.
This year’s family in need included a mother, two daughters ages 12 and 6, and two boys, both age 7. Each family member created a “wish list” of items they needed and Harris Local Government staff shopped ‘til they dropped to fulfill those wishes. Items for the household included a cooking set and towels. The 12-year old received clothes and bedding while the six-year old received a fun bubble wand, among other things. The boys received bedding along with toys such as Legos and action figures.
Through the success of the center’s program last year, 415 individuals were granted a Christmas they might have not otherwise had the opportunity to celebrate. If you want to help the center’s mission to “support and serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and survivors of homicide victims, educate the community, and act to reduce incidents of violence,” please visit the website at www.gccfn.org.
Harris Local Government is proud to give back to its community, a year-round endeavor. Other initiatives in 2021 included providing food to front-line workers, cleaning up parks, volunteering for projects to help the homeless and donating coats to the needy
HLG Gives plans to run strong again in 2022 with quarterly challenges and expanding our reach in the communities of four additional HLG regional offices.
